My Magickal Roots
I was born and raised in South Louisiana, deep in the Bible Belt, surrounded by evangelical Christianity and red-state ideology. I started asking questions early, and I learned quickly that asking questions wasn’t welcome. The first time I dared to express doubt, I got a personal visit from the pastor (the first of many) over dinner that turned into a full-blown soul-saving intervention. That was my introduction to spiritual suppression: stay quiet, stay small, stay in line. In my 30's, an injury forced everything to a halt. I broke both of my feet and spent nearly a year off them, basically confined to a chair. For someone who had worked since age 15 and took pride in that, it was more than a physical setback, it unraveled me. Depression, anger, and the kind of stillness that demands you face yourself cracked me wide open. That’s when I found alchemy. Or maybe it found me. A creator’s video about the stages of alchemical transformation sparked something inside me. One breadcrumb led to another, and soon I was deep in all things occult, mystical, and magickal. My beliefs were torn down and rebuilt, over and over again. I shed layers of programming (and continue to), picked up pieces of my power lost or given away, and slowly began to remember who I really was. Witchcraft gave me back everything I didn’t know I’d lost, or never even really had. It taught me how to love myself, really love myself. It helped me reclaim sovereignty over my body, my spirit, my story. During the time I was recovering from the broken feet, I was diagnosed with lymphedema and told I wouldn’t be able to hold a conventional job again, I was crushed. But that “ending” became the soil for something sacred to bloom. I started selling a few items on Mercari. I discovered witchy Etsy shops that lit me up. And somewhere along the way, Shadows and Sage Co. was born. Now, this shop is more than a business, it’s a lighthouse. It’s a way for me to offer what I wish I’d had when I was first fumbling through the dark: support, encouragement, beautiful tools crafted with intention. Whether you’re just starting your journey, finding your way back to it, or seeking to deepen your practice, I want to help you reconnect with your own magick. You’re not too late. You’re not too broken. You’re not alone. Welcome to my world. Welcome to our world.
